Aromatherapy Recipes - Part 8

Caribbean Beauty Splash

1 cup water
10 drops lavender essential oil
6 drops rose essential oil
4 drops rosemary essential oil
1 Tablespoon witch hazel

Mix the ingredients together. Pour a small amount into your hand. Massage your face with cleanser, then rinse. Store in an airtight container in the fridge. It will last up to 10 days.

Moisturising Cream

4oz sweet almond oil
3oz rosewater
½oz beeswax
10 drops rose essential oil
5 drops lavender essential oil
5 drops bergamot essential oil
8 drops patchouli essential oil
8 drops sandalwood essential oil

Melt the beeswax and the almond oil in a double boiler. Reduce the heat and add the rosewater gradually in a thin stream, while vigorously agitating the mixture.
As soon as the water is incorporated take off heat. When the mixture cools and turns creamy, add the essential oil.

Hair Moisturiser

8 drops cedarwood essential oil
8 drops lavender essential oil
12 drops rosemary essential oil
1oz jojoba oil

Blend all together in a plastic bottle. Then massage about 1 teaspoon of this blend into the hair and scalp. Put on a shower cap and wrap all with a towel. Just sit and relax for at least 15 minutes. Shampoo and rinse your hair twice. Dry and style as normal.
You can do this once a week or monthly.

De-Tangle Conditioning Hair Spray

150mls distilled water
20 drops lavender essential oil
20 drops rosemary essential oil
20 drops carrot seed (cold pressed)
5ml Emulsifier or Solubaliser

Put distilled water in a spray bottle. Add emulsifier and shake well, then add oils and shake again thoroughly. Use when hair is wet or dry. Spray enough to slightly dampen hair (if it is dry) and gently brush or comb hair. De tangles and conditions hair without leaving any residue. For some hair it may also control frizziness, can be used whenever you brush your hair in between washes.
Cream Deodorant

½oz cocoa butter
½oz beeswax
1 Tablespoon glycerine
1 Tablespoon rosewater

Melt cocoa butter and beeswax slowly in the top of a double boiler. Remove from heat, add glycerine and rosewater. Add several drops of one or more of the following deodorizing essential oils: calendula, coriander, eucalyptus. Lavender, lemon, rosemary, sage or thyme. Stir before use if cream separates.

Easy Hand Cream
Handmade hand cream smells wonderful and makes the perfect gift. If you’re looking for a fabulous gift or just a treat for yourself, try making your own hand cream! It smells wonderful and it’s all natural.

Over medium-low heat, melt 4 Tablespoons cocoa butter with 4 Tablespoons beeswax.
Stir in 4 Tablespoon warmed sweet almond oil. This mixture will thicken quickly.
Stir until lump free and then pour into a pretty dish. Cream will solidify as it cools.
Remember, presentation is everything. A beautiful jar or dish tied with ribbon makes a gorgeous gift.

Massage Bar

3oz beeswax
3oz coconut oil
3oz sunflower oil
Essential oil of choice

Melt coconut oil and beeswax in microwave or double boiler. Stir well. Add sunflower oil and stir well. Allow mixture to cool a bit and then add 1 teaspoon of essential oil. Stir some more. Pour into candy or soap moulds and allow to harden.

Vanilla Bath Cookies

Makes 30 cookies

2 cups finely ground sea salt
½ cup baking soda
½ cup cornstarch
2 Tablespoon light oil such as canola or corn oil
1 teaspoon vitamin E oil
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Miscellaneous items: oven, electric mixer, cookie sheet, two mixing bowls, and spatula.

Preheat your oven to 350°F.
Lightly beat the eggs and then mix in the light oil and the vanilla. Set aside.
In a separate bowl, stir together the salt, baking soda, and cornstarch.
Add the dry mixture to the egg mixture and combine to cookie dough consistency.
Roll the dough gently into 1” balls and place them on an ungreased cookie sheet. Note: Do not flatten the balls they spread nicely as they bake.
Bake for approximately 5—7 minutes. Note: they do not need to be browned, just spread and well set.
Allow the cookies to cool completely before you store them.
Store and Use the Cookies
Store the cookies in a sealed container. Note: wait 24 hours after baking before use.
Drop one or two cookies into a warm bath and allow them to dissolved slowly. Note: smashing or crumbling them prematurely will create floating crumbs.

Energising Foot Lotion

If you have been on your feet all day and they are aching then make some of this lotion and rub it on. They will feel better in no time.

1 Tablespoon sweet almond oil
1 Tablespoon olive oil
1 teaspoon wheat germ oil
12 drops eucalyptus essential oil

Combine ingredients in a bottle, shake extremely well. To use: just rub into the feet and heels.
Store in a cool dry place.

Frizzing Bath Oil Balls

¼ cup baking soda
2 Tablespoon citric acid or absorbic acid (powdered vitamin C)
1 Tablespoon borax powder (for softening)
2 Tablespoon powdered sugar (for binding)
2 Tablespoon sweet almond oil
1 teaspoon vitamin E oil (preservative)
¼ teaspoon essential oil of choice

Combine dry ingredients in a bowl and stir until well blended. Drizzle in almond oil and stir until mixture is moistened. Add vitamin E oil and fragrance and stir until well mixed. Take teaspoon size globs of mixture and form into ball shapes with fingers. (Mixture will be very crumbly and fragile, so do the best you can. Add a little bit more of the vitamin E oil if necessary). Place the balls on a sheet of wax paper and leave alone for 2—3 hours, reshape balls. Let the balls air dry and harden for 10 days. Store balls in a closed container to protect from moisture. To use: plop a ball into your bath tub in warm water.
