Allow to cool until the gel begins to thicken and add the essential oils. Blend well and pour into a 100g glass jar.

Everything’s Coming up Roses

10 drops rose 3% in jojoba
10 drops neroli 3% in jojoba
8 drops bergamot non phototoxic essential oil

100g talc base
15 drops lavender spike Spanish essential oil
10 drops peppermint Australian essential oil
5 drops tea tree organic essential oil

Put the talc base in a bowl, then work through the drops of essential oil with a wooden spoon. To completely remove any lumps, and to distribute the oils evenly, push the mixture through a sieve several times.
Store in a talc shaker for one week before using to let the oils absorb into the talc.

Soothing Baby Balm

This soothing balm is good to put on baby’s bottom as a moisturising balm. By adding extra ingredients to the base moisturiser you can create a cream which adds extra protection to baby’s skin.

5g mango kernel butter
5g shea butter
10ml calendula infused oil
30g moisturiser base
2 drops mandarin cold pressed Australian essential oil (or more if not for baby)

Soften the mango kernel butter and Shea butter in a 50g jar using the bain-marie method. For a simple ‘at home’ bain-marie, place the mango kernel butter and Shea butter in glass jar which is placed in a saucepan of shallow water. The shallow water will allow the butters to melt evenly and prevent them from burning.
When the butters are soft enough (this will take less than 5 minutes) pour the moisturiser base into the jar, a little at a time. When the butters and moisturiser base have mixed well, add the calendula oil and 2 drops of mandarin Australian. Stir until all has been absorbed.
This recipe will take you less than 10 minutes to make. This recipe also helps adult hands and feet. The Shea butter and mango kernel butter are natural skin softeners and also coat without being greasy. Calendula oil is soothing and calming to irritated or inflamed skin.

After Work Foot Bath

½ teaspoon green clay
15 drops lavender French alpine essential oil
10 drops geranium Egyptian essential oil

D-I-Y Massage Oil

One of the most pleasurable ways to nourish skin is to massage in vegetable oil or nut oil. To really enjoy this nourishing treat, why not make a bottle of your own massage oil.

In a small bowl, mix:
600ml of oil (use sweet almond oil) with
5 drops orange essential oil
5 drops cedarwood essential oil
5 drops lavender essential oil

It is best to store your massage oil in an opaque glass jar with a tightly fitted lid. This will prevent light and air reaching the contents, which can cause deterioration. Re-usable brown and blue jars and bottles can be brought, or you can save and wash empty glass jars from cosmetics that you have acquired.
Always label your bottle immediately after filling it, especially if you are making more than one product at a time. It is easy to forget which is which when confronted with a mass of anonymous bottles.
Massage oils make great, cheap presents. Use plain sticky labels or Christmas labels or your own homemade labels, and decorate.
It is also a good idea to include the date you made the product. Add a “Not To Be Swallowed” Warning.

Lip Balm—Recipe 1

Mason jar
Medium sized pot and spoons
Pure beeswax
Olive oil
Flavour extract
Food colouring
Small, empty containers

Boil 1 cup of water in a pot. While it heats, put a chunk of beeswax, about the amount of 1 Tablespoon, into a wide-mouthed mason jar and add 3 Tablespoon of olive oil. Then, carefully placed the jar in the boiling water and stir it with a spoon until the beeswax melts.
When it’s all liquidly, carefully remove the jar from the water using oven mitts. Now it’s time to choose a flavour and colour.
For flavour, you can choose any yummy extract from your grocery store! Lemon, orange, cinnamon, almond, vanilla ... Add ¼ teaspoon (you can make fun flavour combinations, to: cherry-vanilla, banana-coconut, citrus burst).
Next, add a few drops of food colouring and stir the lip balm until it begins to cool. You’ll suddenly see it begin to thicken and the colour will really start to show up.
Spoon the balm into small glass jars. You can recycle old, empty ones (be sure to clean them first with hot soap and water).
Give the containers a tap as you fill them, to get rid of air bubbles. If the balm gets too hard, just place the jar back in the hot water for 1 minute o two to soften it up!
Leave the containers open while they cool completely. Then, decorate them by gluing on material, coloured paper, ribbon or stickers!
